You don’t have to sacrifice style for comfort | Lifestyle

Especially for Millennials and members of Generation Z, fashion choices can be difficult because there are so many options from which to choose. As a designer and stylist, I tend to gravitate towards more conservative styles – especially for younger people. I don’t recommend crop Tops, anything too fitted, and pieces that are overly Trendy.

When you live in tropical weather, I know it gets tempting to dress down. But who says you have to sacrifice style to achieve comfort? You can have both!

Ariana Andres

For this column, I collaborated with Ariana Andres, the owner of Seas + Sidewalks at the Micronesia Mall, to highlight a handful of looks.

She did most of the curating with pieces from her store and then I reviewed them and gave my concurrence. We chose pieces that we feel stay true to our island vibe while exuding youthfulness.

Andres was born and raised on Guam. She attended Harvest Christian Academy and attended Seattle Pacific University where she double majored in Fashion Merchandising and Apparel Design and minored in Business Administration.

She gained experience in the retail industry working in small local boutiques in Seattle as well as big brand corporations like Quiksilver. After college, she moved back to the island and opened up her dream store.

Seas + Sidewalks

Seas + Sidewalks opened its first location in November 2018 in the Micronesia Mall. Andres’ father Alex, enjoys windsurfing and kitesurfing. The store has become a fusion of Ariana’s passion for fashion and Alex’s love of water sports. Their family-owned boutique carries quality clothing, swimwear and accessories as well as high performance water sports equipment.

Incidentally, one of my first jobs was as a sales associate at Gino’s in the Agana Shopping Center. I was a sophomore in high school. This was my first formal introduction to the world of fashion.

In order to sell clothes, I had to quickly gauge what sort of Styles customers were looking for and then offer suggestions. It was then that I developed a knack for pulling pieces together and I got the Greatest Satisfaction when customers walked away happy. This Collaboration with Ariana brought back Memories from 30 years ago!

The looks

Going back to our fashion choices – you can see from our pictures that we chose florals and fun patterns. They can bring life to any outfit. Neutral colors are classic, and you will rarely go wrong dressed in them. And then of course, adding accessories will add a whole new dimension to your look.

Looking your best and appropriate for an array of occasions like Sunday brunch with the family, an intimate date, or even a day at work – will require some thought and effort.

Not sure how to pull a Cohesive look together that aims to create the right impression? No problem, check out Ariana at her shop or hit me up on my social media platforms!
